CSV TEXT INSPECTION

Numbers changed in Excel.
Did the source file change too?

Check leading zeros, long IDs and scientific notation. Add a re-saved file to see cell-by-cell text differences.

Check your CSV

Original files are unchanged

Up to 2 MiB and 20,000 rows per file.
Both files must share the same encoding and delimiter.

Results

We inspect file text, not the Excel display

Select files to check, or try the sample showing 00123 → 123 and changed long identifiers. File names and contents are not sent to this site's server.

First distinguish three situations

01

Original text remains intact

The CSV still has 00123, but Excel shows 123? Preserve the source and import the column as text.

02

The two files really differ

Cell-by-cell comparison identifies changed values. It proves differences without attributing them to a particular application.

03

No original is available

If all that remains is 123, you cannot know how many zeros preceded it. Truncated long IDs likewise cannot reveal their missing digits.
