CSV shows scientific notation.
Can the original ID be recovered?
First check whether the original CSV still contains the complete text.If the complete ID remains, import that file again with the column set to text. If only truncated output remains, formatting or text conversion cannot recover unknown digits. The Excel display alone cannot establish whether the file changed.
Make a copy first and preserve the original export.Check my CSV →
The file still contains 00123
Suppose an inventory export contains the product ID 00123, while Excel displays 123. If the original CSV text is still 00123, the file retains its leading zeros. Next check the import column's data type instead of adding zeros.
The re-saved file has changed
A synthetic example:
Original export: 12345678901234567
Re-saved output: 12345678901234500Different strings are a verifiable fact. Establishing the cause requires import, edit and export records; the difference alone does not identify Excel as the cause.
Only scientific notation or truncated output remains
1.23E+16 may be original data or an output from a later step. Without the original, precision loss cannot be established and unknown digits cannot be recovered. Obtain the source export or a backup.
Microsoft explains automatic conversion and Excel's 15-significant-digit limit; formatting cannot bring back lost digits.Read the official documentation。
Check positions before comparing
This tool compares the same row and column positions. Sorting, inserting rows or moving columns can compare different records. Confirm alignment first. Product IDs are not matched automatically.
Verify the method with the included sample
Open the CSV checker and choose Try the sample. This synthetic pair shows 4 changed cells: two product IDs lose leading zeros; two batch IDs change to a zero-ending value and scientific notation. Quantity values stay unchanged.
For your own files, select the original export first and the re-saved file second, then choose Check original text. One file shows current text but cannot reveal past values. Files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to this site's server.
